First, there is an intense course of lectures to provide you with key ideas in mathematics and statistics that you will need to pursue the MSc. If you have a strong mathematics background, then most or all of this will be familiar to you. The emphasis is on intuition & applications rather than mathematical rigour. There will be no proofs in general. The content is divided between linear algebra, calculus and statistics.
The second part of the module focuses on preparing students for their summer project - either a thesis or an internship. The module will focus on developing the students' research skills, as well as preparing them for the labour market. It consists of
- Classes to help prepare students to conduct a research thesis
- Classes to help prepare students to find a suitable internship
- Classes to help prepare students for entering the labour market
