This module focuses on preparing students for their summer trimester, during which they will be either undertake a supervised thesis or an internship. Students will deepen their understanding of research in Economics by attending research seminars. The module includes a series of lectures on research skills and preparing for the job market. Students are also required to submit their thesis/internship proposal and to give a presentation at the MSc Jamboree.

It consists of
- Classes to help prepare students to conduct an MSc thesis
- Classes to help prepare students to find a suitable internship
- Classes to help prepare students for entering the labour market
- Seminars by invited speakers on research and on working as a professional economist

About this Module

Learning Outcomes:

There are four main learning outcomes for this module. Students that complete this module successfully will have a solid understanding of:
1. How to conduct a piece of research for an MSc thesis
2. How professional economists undertake research and present it to their peers
3. How to apply for a professional job and prepare for job interviews
4. What it is like to work as a professional economist.

Indicative Module Content:

This module will include topics such as:
- Information on how to write your thesis
- Information on how to find an internship
- Information on how to present a research paper
- Visits from professional economists who will talk to you about how they use economics (and economic research) in their jobs

Approaches to Teaching and Learning:
Multiple different teaching and learning approaches will be used in this module including student presentations, reflective learning, class discussion, lectures and critical writing.

Students may use AI for help with programming, literature search, and data search, However, students must write all assignments without assistance from AI. It is considered plagiarism to have AI write any sections of the written assignments. Please note that if academic misconduct is suspected, you may be asked to discuss or explain components of your assignment to determine the authenticity of the work.
