ECON20040 Statistics for Economists

Academic Year 2023/2024

This module introduces the main techniques of statistics as used in economics. Students will be introduced to numerical and graphical techniques for representing data. The course outlines the use of simple linear regression, the basic tool of empirical economics. Following a revision of basic probability theory, the use of probability distributions of random variables will be covered. The final part of the course covers the theory of estimation, statistical inference and hypothesis testing. There will be regular exercise sheets for self-assessment.
