This is a core module for the MSc in Clinical Nutrition and Dietetics programme. This module comprises catering provision to service users, large scale health promotion planning and delivery. Students will also work in the Irish health service and other settings relevant to dietetic practice under the direction of Practice Educators in collaboration with dietetics and other health service staff and with the support of a Practice Tutor. In addition, international placement opportunities can be considered for students who apply to volunteer with UCDVO Health Programmes in locations like Uganda and Tanzania for example. Students will have an opportunity to practise and develop foundation clinical and other dietetics professional skills learned in the academic setting and to carry out service user assessments and treatments in a multidisciplinary work environment. The module facilitates clinical reasoning, reflection, discussion and sharing of placement experiences in the context of evidence-based professional dietetics practice. Each student completes a Learning Portfolio as evidence of competence during the practice placement. Successful completion of this module is a prerequisite to DIET40110 Practice Placement 2.
