DEV40010 One Planet, One Ocean (SDG 14)

One Ocean, One Planet is a A holistic view of how the ocean functions, how human interactions with the ocean can be understood, and what solutions are available to support both sustainable use and stewardship of our blue planet. It can be taken at your own pace during the first Trimester.

It is a 5 credit course that must be taken alongside ENVB30130 Ecology and its applications (5 credits) to earn 10 credits for the M.Sc. in Sustainable Development.

The course is based on the online course provided by the SDG Academy throughout the trimester the but the grade will be based on an independent project based on the material in the online course.

Learning Outcomes:

Planet Earth and The Blue Planet

Understand the role of Sustainable development practitioners who need a science-based overview of preservation and conservation of the oceans and the ecosystems they support

Understand the role of Private-sector actors – such as those who work in corporate sustainability and responsibility, energy, fishing and other industries connected to the oceans – who are interested in understanding the sustainable interaction of their field with these resources

Help graduate students learn about the intersections of oceanography, environmental science, environmental law, sustainable development, sustainable business and related fields

Learn the role of politics around the governance of ocean use and preservation
