How will I be graded?
Letter grades

Curricular information is subject to change.

Students are introduced to the fundamentals of structural dynamics – natural frequencies, modes of vibration, damping, harmonic excitation and vibration transmissibility. Mode superposition and transient analysis techniques for solving dynamic problems are introduced. Test procedures for measuring natural frequencies, associated modes of vibration and damping levels are also covered.

About this Module

Learning Outcomes:

Upon completion of this course, students should be able to:
1. Calculate natural frequencies and modes of vibration for two degree of freedom systems
2. Understand the concept of damping and its effect on structural response
3. Understand the concepts of dynamic magnification factors and vibration transmissibility
4. Understand how to solve dynamic problems using mode superposition and transient analysis techniques
