Learning Outcomes:
On completion of the course students should be able to apply structural mechanics to evaluate the forces in structural elements. Apply these principles to design safe, efficient, and durable structures to Eurocode requirements using concrete and steel. Prepare detailed design calculations for structural elements to Eurocode requirements. Assess the embodied carbon the their structural designs and make design decisions for its minimisation. Understand the principles of structural design and apply these principles for the design of reinforced concrete flexure, torsion, buckling, cracking, and deep members using strut-and-tie method. Understand and design for structural stability. Have an understanding of lower bound theorems of collapse. Design steel trusses, beams, and columns in single and multi-storey structures. Understand the principles of composite concrete-steel construction.
