This module will apply soil mechanics (CVEN2001W & CVEN3003W) in foundation design. The students will be introduced to the design of shallow foundations, mat foundations, deep foundations and retaining walls.

About this Module

Learning Outcomes:

Upon successful completion of this module, students will be able to: (i) design shallow foundation and estimate settlements; (ii) estimate pile capacity using empirically derived equations; (iii) design gravity and sheet pile retaining walls; (iv) design deep excavations.
