Curricular information is subject to change.

This course gives you a detailed insight into the computational methods used to mine digital traces of data left by human beings at scale thereby enabling a study of society and how it works. Mainly this course aims to equip students with the skills necessary to utilise computational power for the detection of hidden patterns in social data to address many important questions in social science.

About this Module

Learning Outcomes:

On completion of this module, students will be able to
 Ask social science questions and be able to answer them by collecting data from digital sources such as the web of social media sites
 Perform exploratory data analysis and make use of machine learning algorithms (including text-based ones) to arrive at a conclusion for a social science research question
