This module focuses on the teaching of creative writing and includes the following;-
1. Discussion and & evaluation of prescribed texts on the teaching of creative writing.
2. Consideration of studies on creative development in the Irish context.
3. Identifying goals and objectives in the building of a teaching module
4. Selecting strategies to achieve these objectives, ie apposite class work, assignments etc.
5. Selecting teaching methods, appropriate to primary & secondary, community, third Level etc.

Learning Outcomes:

1. An understanding of how to approach the teaching of creative writing at a number of educational levels, primary & secondary, community, third Level etc.
2. The capacity to design and implement a course in creative writing for all of the above.
3. The ability to assess the achievements of those taking part.

Indicative Module Content:

This module uses a combination of theoretical and practical approaches to enable participants
to develop the skills necessary to teach creative writing in a range of educational contexts.
Participants will analyse, synthesise, and evaluate critical texts in a manner appropriate to the
postgraduate study of creative writing. Workshop discussions, exercises, and presentations
will allow you to explore different teaching methods and strategies. Combined with journal
reflection, these approaches will enable you to develop your own pedagogical philosophy and
teaching style. Reading and assignments will be emailed to you each week and / or posted on
Bright Space.

How will my Feedback be Delivered?

Each week we will discuss as a group the assignment set for the previous week. Guidelines for the final essay will be discussed in the last two sessions and one to one feedback sessions can be organised after assessment.
