This OPTIONAL module is offered over T1 and T2, 2021/2 with a cumulative total of 20 credits. It offers you the opportunity to develop a creative project or research topic based on your own particular interests, e.g. fiction, poetry, etc. Within the English with Creative Writing pathway, a creative dissertation is available to you. This is viewed as a practice-led research project with a critical reflection. Based on your topic or genre, you will be assigned a supervisor from amongst the School staff who will help to direct your research and develop your project over a series of meetings. These meetings will take place at set times over the course of the trimester and attendance at these meetings is required. You will present your research in the form of a 10,000-word dissertation, 8,500 words of creative work in prose or an equivalence in poetry and 1,500 words of critical reflection.

The module content will be made up of the writing and redrafting of a research topic or creative project under the supervision of a staff member.

Learning Outcomes:

Upon successful completion of this module, you will be able to:
- demonstrate the ability to engage in a process of revising your own creative work
- comment critically on your own writing process
- show understanding of a range of theoretical and aesthetic concerns related to
the craft of creative writing
- complete an extended piece of original, creative work

Indicative Module Content:

The module content will be made up of the writing and redrafting of a research topic or creative project under the supervision of a staff member.

Approaches to Teaching and Learning:
This is viewed as a practice-led research project with a critical reflection. Based on your topic or genre, you will be assigned a supervisor from amongst the School staff who will help to direct your research and develop your project over a series of meetings.
Reflective learning; drafting; revision, and rewriting and consultation with supervisors are major elements of the T&L strategy.
