The module will involve studying the works of a number of poets, whose work will reflect the
variety of techniques used in modern and postmodern poetry. You will be asked to focus on,
for example, the imagery, structure, prosody and diction used in these poems, and to
experiment with these elements in your own poetry writing. You will undertake a series of
writing exercises that will allow you to explore these techniques and concerns.

Learning Outcomes:

On successful completion of the module, you will be able to:
 demonstrate knowledge of the works of a range of poets
 examine and experiment with a number of techniques used by these poets
 demonstrate the ability to engage in a process of revising your own poems
 comment analytically and critically upon the texts assigned
 show understanding of a range of theoretical and aesthetic concerns related to
the craft of poetry
