CRWT10020 The Craft of Creative Writing 2

Academic Year 2022/2023

Creative Writing II is an introductory course in creative writing,
following on from the foundational module CWI. Students will be introduced to the skills,
and techniques of writing fiction, poetry, and dramatic writing. Lectures will introduce
students to contemporary texts, and approaches to reading as a writer. Longer workshops will feature
writing assignments aimed to develop each student’s creative writing. Peer review, discussion
and revision will ensure the practice-based character of the module.

Learning Outcomes:

At the conclusion of this module students will be able to:
1. Generate original compositions in prose, poetry and dramatic writing.
2. Provide constructive criticism to the creative writing of their peers.
3. Revise their own creative writing.
4. Reflect critically on their own practice as a creative writer.
5. Demonstrate a knowledge of the codes and conventions of a variety of genres in
prose, poetry and dramatic writing.
6. Work effectively and participate in interactive lectures and workshops.
