Learning Outcomes:
At the conclusion of this module students will be able to:
1. Generate original compositions in both prose and poetry.
2. Provide constructive criticism to the creative writing of their peers.
3. Revise their own creative writing.
4. Begin to reflect critically on their own practice as a creative writer.
5. Demonstrate a knowledge of the rudimentary codes and conventions of a variety of genres in prose and poetry.
6. Work effectively and participate in interactive lectures and workshops.
Indicative Module Content:
This module centres upon practical work designed to develop the skills appropriate to the undergraduate study of creative writing. These skills will be focused in the following areas: the analysis and use of published writing; language and style; seminar/workshop practice; and habits of writing, self-reflection and revision. The module will investigate how writers think about what they write and the techniques they use to write most effectively in their various mediums. Workshop exercises will allow you to establish guidelines for constructive participation and encourage co-operation and self-reflection. Reading and assignments will be emailed to you each week and / or posted on Brightspace.
