Curricular information is subject to change.

In this module we will discuss selected readings that illuminate the interdisciplinary challenges that cognitive science must face. We will consider the public face of scientific research, the various kinds of differentiated expertise and ignorance that co-exist in public discourse, and we will inquire into how we negotiate the contested issues that must arise. The scope of knowledge claims by scientists, by clinicians, and by other professional and lay persons will be subject to critique. The module is strongly participatory: it's only possible value lies in the participation of the students in exploring the contested waters of claim and counterclaim in a field with no singular agreed foundation.
