Curricular information is subject to change.

This module provides students with an introduction to performance engineering applied to large-scale software systems. Topics may include Measurement Techniques and Tools, Probability and Queueing Models, Test Design and Analysis, and Simulation. The practical work will test skills and techniques for performance assurance and testing, including some or all of the following: design of performance tests; model generation; model analysis using a commercial or open-source simulator or spreadsheet; analysis and presentation of results.

About this Module

Learning Outcomes:

By the end of the module, students will:
1. have an appreciation of the state-of-the-art of performance engineering;
2. know and be able to apply analytical and simulation tools and techniques to tackle performance engineering of complex software systems;
3. have conducted performance analysis/evaluation exercises.

Indicative Module Content:

Topics vary, but are likely to include Measurement Techniques and Tools, Probability and Queueing Models, Test Design and Analysis, and Simulation.

The United Nations identified seventeen Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) as core to the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, and UCD contributes in general to SDG 4 Quality Education. Further SDGs explored within this module if relevant are listed below. A scale of 1 - 5 indicates the extent to which the SDG is covered.
