The course covers the general Chinese legal system with a wide range of topics including legal culture, constitution, civil law, family law, commercial law, environmental law and trade law. Cases in practice and film clips will be provided for the purpose of facilitating understanding in this regard. Interaction is encouraged between students and (guest) lecturers and between students themselves through flexible forms in order to enhance understanding. On completion of this module, students are expected to have a general clue in mind about how to deal with legal issues in China.

Learning Outcomes:

On completion of the module, students should be able to:
1) have a general knowledge about the Chinese legal system, its history, the present and the future;
2) critically examine the independence of the judicial system in China;
3) be familiar with a basic set of laws related to doing business in China and become aware of their applying situation;
