CHN20020 Int. Spoken Chinese III

This module is designed with a focus on improving students’ oral communicative competencies towards an intermediate level. In addition to further consolidating the skills that students have acquired in listening and speaking, this module aims to enhance students’ pronunciation, fluency, accuracy and range of vocabulary in spoken Chinese, by introducing more topics in daily life communication as well as in cultural contexts.
Students who achieve at least a C grade in this module are deemed to have a good grasp of the key linguistic elements of a level equivalent to HSK 3.

Learning Outcomes:

On completion of this module, students will be able to:
1) communicate effectively on a variety of topics related to everyday situations in China;
2) initiate and maintain conversations and discussion on everyday topics;
3) understand authentic short conversations and listening texts on a variety of topics.




Indicative Module Content:

This module uses HSK Standard Course 3 (Lesson 11-20) as the main teaching material, and supplementary materials at equivalent level.

Approaches to Teaching and Learning:
This module will be delivered in small-sized class and students’ learning will be guided using digital tools for maximized efficiency. The module will be taught mainly in Chinese. 
Requirements, Exclusions and Recommendations
Learning Requirements:

In order to take this module, students need to have prior knowledge which is equivalent to HSK Level 2.

Learning Exclusions:

The students who are native Mandarin speakers are not eligible to take this module as an elective.

The lecturer reserves the right to assess the language competence of all students. Students whose competence is incompatible with the level of their chosen elective module will be advised to transfer to a more appropriate language module.
