Advanced and frontier areas involving surface chemistry, catalysis, micelles, micro- and nano- materials, chemical devices, medical applications, sensors, fuels, energy conversion and storage, chemistry of cuisine and food, polymers, bio- related physical chemistry applications and applications of thermodynamics.

All topics may not be covered every year.

Learning Outcomes:

This course will create a base for careers in chemistry, engineering, materials science, development of certain types of advanced sensing devices and methods, teaching, research and development.
Embedded Learning Outcomes:
Basics of colloids, surfactants, surfaces and interfaces (application oriented)
Understanding and exploitation of nano- and porous materials
Applications of adsorption and catalysis
Applications of micro- and nano materials in catalysis, sensors, medical diagnostics, food science, etc.
Learn about liquid crystals and devices
Learn about the exploitation of light as an analytical tool (other than spectroscopies)
Basics of chemical energy conversion methods
Applications of thermodynamic principles in everyday life
Critique chemical, physical and engineering state-of-the-art
Promote green chemistry
Exploit chemical sciences and technology
