Fundamental terminology and concepts involved in Medicinal Chemistry and drug development will be introduced. Major drug targets will be identified and the various approaches towards drug design will be discussed. The meaning and importance of pharmacokinetic and - metabolic (ADMET) properties of drugs will be highlighted. All different subjects will be exemplified by case studies. A computer-based course material, Molecular Conceptor, with free student access to the material, will be used for the teaching.

About this Module

Learning Outcomes:

The student will learn how drugs are developed and the problems involved in the process. How drug targets are selected, how drug hits are identified and optimized into lead compounds, and their possible subsequent development into candidates for clinical trials.
