This module continues from CCIV 20100 and aims to finish Part 1 (grammar) of Miles' textbook. If there is time left, we will continue into Part 2 and read Middle Welsh sagas and poems withe the help of dictionaries.

About this Module

Learning Outcomes:

Students should have acquired a general knowledge of the pronunciation, grammar and major literature of Middle Welsh. They should be be able to read simple Middle Welsh texts with the help of grammar books and dictionaries.

Indicative Module Content:

We will be using the latest progressive textbook, Brent Miles' An Introduction to Middle Welsh, Brent Miles, (Toronto 2023) for this module. The author has authorised us to use an electronic copy of his book, which will be provided on Brightspace. We will also learn to use the Geriadur Prifysgol Cymru dictionary.

UNESCO highlights a set of key competencies that support individuals in their development and support society in achieving the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). This module will help you develop the competencies below to the levels specified.

Approaches to Teaching and Learning:
This module will be classroom-based and build on the close interaction between lecturer and students. Attendance is thus essential. The lecturer will explain the textbook content and work on detailed grammatical points in class, and discuss the exercises with students.
