Invalid Option This module is designed to introduce research and taught masters students to the essential skills of research and teaching. These are transferable skills required in any workplace environment. The module is divided into three parts:
(1) Research skills: introduction to information resources (examples include journals, library resources, digital archives); online academic tools (Sciene Direct, Web of Knowledge, Scopus); searching and assessing the merit of information from digital resources; Ethics & Integrity; Data management; structured writing (focusing on the scientific paper); oral communication.
(2) Teaching skills: roll of teaching assistants; modes of learning; plagiarism and cheating; assessment; objectivity and grading.
(3) Interview skills: CV; interview technique; first impressions.

About this Module

Learning Outcomes:

On completion of this module you will be able to:
- Identify the merit of an information source (e.g. peer reviewed journal or web archive)
- Synthesise your research work into a scientific paper
- Communicate by your work effectively during a stand up presentation
- Effectively contribute teaching activities in your workplace
- Present yourself to potential employers in a professional and honest manner
