BSEN20150 Agricultural Engineering Principles

Academic Year 2022/2023

This module has two main sections, energy and mechanics. In the energy section you will be introduced to the principles of heat and energy including heat transfer, the laws of thermodynamics, units and dimensions, forms of energy, the application of conservation of energy, power generation and refrigeration. In the mechanics section you will be introduced to mechanical concepts such as force, moments, bending moments, stress and strain, that are used in the design of structures and machinery.
Along side these you will learn more about using Python programming for solving problems and using such skills to solve engineering problems.

Approaches to Teaching and Learning:
To get the maximum out of this module a student should attend all lectures and take appropriate notes. Some of the notes are on Brightspace but these is not sufficient to pass the examination.

Students are expected to attend the practicals and do the assignments, which are assessed.

Requirements, Exclusions and Recommendations
Learning Exclusions:

This module is for students who are not studying Engineering.

Learning Recommendations:

Prior knowledge of Leaving Cert Physics or any level 1 Physics module would be beneficial to students attending this module. Some ability to program in Python required.
