BMOL40200 Industry Research Project

Academic Year 2021/2022

This project will run for 6 months commencing in Summer of 3rd year and running through Autumn of 4th year . This research project gives the student the opportunity to work in Industry over a 6 month period to optimize, run or develop assays relevant in the Industry sector, relevant to one or more of the core disciplines of the UCD School of Biomolecular and Biomedical Science (Biochemistry, Genetics, Microbiology, Neuroscience and Pharmacology). Through this module, the student acquires requisite skills in experimental techniques, critical data evaluation, and written and oral communication of scientific content as well as an understanding of business practices.

Learning Outcomes:

On completion of this module the student will have carried out an independent scientific research project and developed a wide range of skills essential in the biotechnology industry. The student will learn how to design a coherent strategy to address a research question and how to adapt different techniques to overcome problems commonly encountered during research. In addition the student will gain experience in analysing and interpreting data and presenting their results in a clear and competent manner both in written and oral format.

How will my Feedback be Delivered?

Feedback will be provided on a weekly basis during the research placement by the Industry supervisor. Feedback will also be provided by the Academic supervisor in relation to preparing oral presentations and thesis writing.
