Curricular information is subject to change.

This module is an optional module for Stage 4 BSc degrees in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, Genetics, Pharmacology and Neuroscience. Students will conduct their research project at the University of Copenhagen or the University of Bochum on a specified topic. Each student is assigned to a member of the staff at the indicated institutions, who will supervise the project. On completion of the practical component of the project (16 weeks in Autumn), students return to UCD to write a project report (thesis) and make an oral presentation of their findings (in Spring).

About this Module

Learning Outcomes:

On completion of this module, students should be able to: 1. Design and perform experiments using technical skills acquired in their research project. 2. Analyse and critically-evaluate scientific data. 3. Perform a literature search and review scientific papers relevant to their project. 4. Present their research finding in an oral presentation. 5. Feedback Strategy/Strategies

• Feedback individually to students, on an activity or draft prior to summative assessment
• Feedback individually to students, post-assessment

How will my Feedback be Delivered?

Throughout the project students will receive informal feedback on their performance as well as feedback on data analysis, data interpretation and data presentation from their project supervisor. Students are offered the opportunity to deliver a practice presentation and obtain feedback from their UCD mentor prior to delivering the assessed presentation. Students submit a complete draft of their project report (thesis) to their UCD mentor and will receive detailed feedback prior to submitting the final version of the thesis.
