This module is designed to introduce participants to entrepreneurial mindsets, practices and processes.
While we will explore the skillsets necessary to create new ventures, we will also consider how these can be applied to other forms of entrepreneurship (such as social entrepreneurship and intrapreneurship), as well as entrepreneurial leadership more broadly.
Students will generate their own new business ideas, develop them collaboratively in small teams and undertake the initial phases of bringing them to market, including considerable interaction with potential customers and other industry contacts.
The course will cover major theoretical and conceptual issues in the entrepreneurship research literature and show how they apply in a variety of contexts and relate to everyday examples of entrepreneurship in our economy and society.

About this Module

Learning Outcomes:

On successful completion of this module, students will be able to:
- Have acquired personal and team-based experience and understanding of new venture creation processes
- Engaged with tools of the new venture creation process to identify a potential business opportunity and provisionally test it in the market place
- Deal with uncertainty, risk and failure in the world of entrepreneurship – and learned to grow from the experience
- Synthesised main theories, principles and concepts of entrepreneurship research with your own personal and professional insights of entrepreneurship
- Identify how principles of entrepreneurship can be applied in a wide variety of contexts


Indicative Module Content:

Module content will relate to the processes and activities necessary to create a new venture. These include idea generation techniques, group idea development workshops, the use of relevant business development tools, weekly requirements to research and explore ideas, and carry out final pitches of business ideas. The latter classes will incorporate more analytical, theoretical reflection of what it is to be an entrepreneur and what entrepreneurship looks like in society. You will be required to engage with industry to research your business idea and conduct your individual assignment. You will be assigned and provided with readings and online material as the module progresses.
Material for the class is released and discussed in the first class.

Approaches to Teaching and Learning:
This module is highly interactive and requires serious contributions and reflections from students on their experiences and views on the various topics discussed. You will also be required to interact with the external business environment on an ongoing basis.
