BMGT40720 International Strategic Management

Academic Year 2021/2022

In the 21st century economy where all competitive advantage is temporary and globalisation is a reality the only true differentiator is the rate at which organisations can adapt. A high degree of organisational fitness is a key input to this ability to change. Capability in the discipline of Business Policy or in essence International Strategic Management & Planning informs an organisation’s ability to survive and prosper over the long term. Companies who succeed over the long term place significant emphasis on strategy development on an on-going basis. It is in this context that International Strategic Management module forms an important building block on the ME Management programme.

The priority aims of this course are:(1) To provide the student with the main theories and concepts underpinning the subject of international strategic management(2) To provide the students with the skills and tools to apply these theories and concepts to the analysis of real world business scenariosIt is important to note that analytical tools do not provide answers – rather it is the “judgement and interpretation” of the information provided by such analytical tools that provide answers. Hence there are no absolute answers in the art/science of international Strategic Management but instead matters of opinion arising from the interpretation of the information provided by the analytical tools. Critically these matters of opinion or perspectives are supported by evidence.
