This module is designed to explain and evaluate the current thinking in operations management and operations strategy. It is expected that students will gain an understanding of this field and be able to apply theories and concepts in a practical setting. This course will cover strategic management issues such as operations strategy, new product development, enterprise resource planning, relationship management, and service operations as well as more general topics such as quality, environmental concerns, and future trends in operations management.

Learning Outcomes:

On completing the SCM&C module, students will be expected to be able to:
1. Describe the functional areas of operations management and explain how they interface with an organisation's other functional areas.
2. Analyse the various issues and problems that traditionally arise in the management of operations within both manufacturing and service organisations.
3. Apply the terminology, modelling, and methodology often employed in designing and improving an operations function.
4. Think critically and use analytical tools in making business decisions and problem solving.

Approaches to Teaching and Learning:

Students will have an opportunity to review contemporary operations management using real case studies and theoretical discussion. Students will review and analysis the theory in a conceptual and a practical framework.
