This module is designed to provide students with a broad understanding of the issues involved in international business. Drawing on the theories and empirical evidence in the area, the course discusses the main economic, political, legal, and cultural factors that characterise the globalising business environment. Subsequently, the course focuses on how these factors impact the establishment and management of international companies. The firm-level issues covered include the international and competitive strategies, organisational structures, the process of internationalisation, modes of foreign expansion and operation, global supply chain management, international marketing and research and development, and global human resource management.

About this Module

Learning Outcomes:

On completing this module students should be able to:1. Apply the theories covered and provide practical examples to explain how and why the business environments of the world's countries differ and influence one another; 2. Analyse the challenges and opportunities for international businesses that result from these differences and interdependencies, in particular in the context of your workplace experience; 3. Identify a new international business opportunity and analyse the main contextual and managerial issues involved in its practical implementation.

Approaches to Teaching and Learning:
Students will attend classes for this module and have the opportunity to engage in active learning during these sessions. There will be in-class discussion and group work to analyse module concepts. Where appropriate, the module will incorporate case based learning.
