This module has been designed with non-business students in mind - those studying in other faculties / schools, and those in their first year of an undergraduate business programme. The purpose of the module is to introduce students to the concept of global business by making important theories accessible, interesting and informative.

For the new student, the world of business can appear daunting. In reality, however, we all have direct exposure to, and knowledge of, global business, thanks to the products we buy, the places we visit, and the news stories that we hear every day. Hence this module is a preliminary foray into global business, introducing key global business concepts at an introductory level.

Learning Outcomes:

On completion of this module, students will be able to:1. Understand the concepts of global business at an introductory level;2. Discuss how changes in regulations governming global business, plus changes in political systems and technology, have vastlt altered the global business landscape;3. Logically debate the pros and cons of conducting business in the global environment;4. Understand the prevalence and economic implications of outsourcing of business activities to low-cost economies;5. Explain the competitive behaviour of global companies.

Approaches to Teaching and Learning:
This module is structured around a series of classes, includng class discussion, case studies and video materials. Class participation is an essential component of the design of this course, both in-person and with online course materials on Brightspace such as assigned readings.
