This module includes areas of law and practice related to construction in Ireland, including- the legal framework (national and EU as it relates to construction and development); Planning & Development legislation (law, procedure and practice); Health & Safety legislation (law, procedure & practice); Building Control legislation (law, procedure and practice); building conservation (international treaties and national policy); sustainability, environmental, safety and other legislation relating to construction/ built environment, building procurement and architectural practice.

Learning Outcomes:

On completion of this Module the student should be able to:
-Demonstrate a good working knowledge and understanding of all current relevant legislation and regulations relating to Planning & Development legislation and practice, Health & Safety legislation and practice, Building Control legislation and practice, building conservation, sustainability, environmental , and other legislation relating to construction/ built environment, procurement and architectural practice.
-Demonstrate an ability to identify the appropriate legislation and regulations relevant to a project and an ability to professionally advise a client in relation to compliance and statutory requirements.
-Demonstrate an ability to apply all relevant legislation, regulations and `best practice' standards throughout the design and construction of a project.
-Demonstrate an ability to implement effective quality control and audit procedures in relation to compliance with the legal and regulatory requirements.
-Demonstrate an ability to recognise his/her own limitations and an ability to identify other sources of information and expertise where required.
- Demonstrate an ability to communicate clearly and comprehensively.

Approaches to Teaching and Learning:
This module will be delivered on campus or online/blended in the Spring Trimester. Lecture recordings, learning material and readings will be available to students for flexible learning, supported by live lectures over four days of the trimester.
