Learning Outcomes:

On completion of this module it is anticipated that students will be able to;

Discuss implications of material and structural choices in terms of environmental impact, performance and regulations.
Assess site potentials and identify appropriate organizational or material strategies in reference to site and brief to optimize environmental and energy performance.
Demonstrate understanding of structural principles and environmental/building physics in schematic design and to extend this understanding into detail realization in design project

Indicative Module Content:

Key topics include introduction to Irish Building Regulations, the relationship between building performance and the environment, energy assessment procedures and building fabric evaluation, structural systems, access and egress, natural and mechanical services, outline specifications and detailing.

How will my Feedback be Delivered?

Group and/or individual oral feedback is offered prior to final portfolio submission. Continuous feedback is offered to groups and individuals during research, analysis, strategy and development phases of project work. There will be opportunities for students to peer review a range of different exemplars of other students’ work in-class during presentations across the trimesters.
