Curricular information is subject to change.

Following on ARCT30090 and CVEN20040, this module continues to explore the integration of architectural technologies into the design process of a medium-rise complex building. Following topics will be further developed: Site Strategy; Environmental Issues; Building Envelope Systems; Structural Systems; Building Services; Fire Safety; Accessibility; Technical Documentation and Specification.

Furthermore, this module develops students’ skills in preparing structural calculation of their designs. Emphasis will be placed on making good design judgements, accurate calculations and presenting the results in a readable format.

This module is delivered through a series of lectures, workshops and exercises and students will work towards a comprehensive design of a medium-rise complex building.

About this Module

Learning Outcomes:

On completion of this module students should be able to:
- Formulate the principles of architectural technologies to a medium-rise complex building
- Display the ability to integrating complex aspects of building technology into a medium-rise building
- Display the ability of achieving compliance with relevant building regulations
- Demonstrate basic knowledge of relevant environmental issues and building services
- Demonstrate the ability to produce basic technical documentation for a medium-rise building
- Demonstrate the ability to produce basic structural documentation for a medium-rise building
- Create a stable structural scheme design from technology studio work and prepare detailed design calculations of a range of beams and columns, stating the correct units for all calculations.
