This module provides a theoretical and technical grounding in digital drawing and image-making in the architectural design process. The module is taught through a combination of live lecture and video-tutorials. Each week students will learn a specific skill set combined with a critical overview of the theoretical, historical and contemporary modes of the drawing and image-making practice. Assignments are structured to allow for a gradual development of technical proficiency and theoretical appreciation through weekly submissions.

Learning Outcomes:

On completion of this module students should be able to -1. Create three dimensional visual representations of space in a variety of digital and analog media2. Demonstrate an understanding of the uses and effects of various modes of representation3. Source and learn from online resources such as video tutorials, online forums etc.4. Collate and re-represent their work in digital and analog format.5. Demonstrate a critical understanding of contemporary and historical representational practice.6. Demonstrate proficiency in the use of digital drawing, modelling and imaging software.

Portrayal of pictorial depth in non-perspectival images / Historical Image Analysis
History and theory of collage and photomontage / Digital Collage
History and Theory of orthographic projection / Digital 2D Drawing
History of architectural models and digital modelling / Digital 3D Modelling
History and Theory of the use of perspectival techniques in painting and the architectural design process / Extracting images from Digital 3D models

Approaches to Teaching and Learning:
Course if delivered through live lectures, which cover the theoretical overview of the weeks theme, paired with video-tutorials covering specific digital skill learning. Each week students carry out an assignment based on that theme. The content of these assignments is sometimes precedent material which is individually allotted to each student and other times uses the students studio design projects.
