This module considers natural, cultural, tangible, intangible and maritime heritage managment challenges from an African persepctive providing a broad overview of theoretical and methodological approaches.

Learning Outcomes:

At the end of this module students will be able to:

- Recognise the legal conventions that underpin heritage management
- Define key threats to heritage emanating from development projects and natural factors
- Distinguish principles and processes of Environmental Impact Assessment from Desk-based assessment to Environmental Statement.
- Assess how stakeholders can co-create a strategy for heritage sustainability (primus interparis)
- Identify how heritage contributes to peacebuilding, reconciliation and sustainable development
- Describe the structure a heritage management plan and formulate how to effectively communicate different heritage narratives

Legal Frameworks, Threats to Heritage in Africa, Contract Archaeology and Heritage Management, Heritage for Heritage sake: heritagisation and commercialisation of heritage, Heritage valuesm, Heritage in post-conflict environments, Contested Heritage, Heritage and Sustainable Development, Managing Planning for Heritage Sites, Communicating Heritages
