2. Organise, attribute, critique & evaluate primary and secondary information to critically assess the viability of the proposed project

Indicative Module Content:

Weeks 1 to 9 consist of 1 session of two hours every week. In each week, the sessions will focus one aspect that is key to the proposal development. Week 11 to 12 are designed to allow the time and space to develop the project. A brief overall of the schedule is provided below.

WEEK 1 Session 1 and 2: The spark – Introduction & discussion of potential topics
WEEK 2 Session 3 and 4: The why – Ideas, framing research questions, considering the answer
WEEK 3 Session 5 and 6: The how – Methodology & methodology
WEEK 4 Session 7 and 8: The what and the when – Practicalities, Time, Information & Data
WEEK 5 Session 9 and 10: Care and Caution: Research Ethics & Risk
WEEK 6 Session 11 and 12: Project Elevator Pitch (timing may vary depending on class size and timetable)
WEEK 7 Session 13 and 14: Accepting critique as a gift! SWOT analysis and peer review 1
WEEK 8 Study Week
WEEK 9 Session 15 and 16: Another Gift! SWOT analysis and peer review 2
WEEK 10-12 These weeks have been reserved to give flexible space to class support and proposal development

Approaches to Teaching and Learning:

Class (online/in class) based discussion and peer review. Enquiry and problem-based learning

NOTE: You may choose to use generative AI (Artificial Intelligence) assessments for this module for the following purposes ONLY:
(1) for correction (to correct spelling, grammar and punctuation)
(2) for citation (to arrange references according to a particular citation style).
(3) to organise the structure of an essay (though this is not encouraged because it deskills you)
(4) to find, learn about and understand suitable resources (i.e. for background research - though this is not encouraged because it deskills you).
(5) for brainstorming and generating ideas, but this is really not encouraged.It can lead you down a confusing and incorrect path and seriously undermine your skills. Have confidence in your own reading, thoughts and voice.
Other uses of AI are NOT permitted (e.g. to generate text). Do not use AI to do your critical thinking for you because this deprives you of the opportunity to maintain or sharpen your thinking processes

How will my Feedback be Delivered?

There will be an opportunity to discuss and get feedback on the proposal before final submission. Final submission receives UCD School of Archaeology standard feedback via Brightspace rubric and comments
