Learning Outcomes:
On completion of this module students should be able to:
1. Demonstrate improved ability in research literacy
2. Discuss the importance of research integrity
3. Critically evaluate literature in a relevant area of animal science, leading to the development of a research question, aims and testable hypothesis
4. Plan and design a viable, ethical and original research project using quantitative research methods.
5. Communicate this research proposal to peers.
Indicative Module Content:
Students will receive lectures on the following topics:
1. The Research Ecosystem
2. Research types, evidence pyramid and data independence
3. Scientific Literacy
4. Research Integrity
5. Research as a career (given by research active academic)
With guidance from the module coordinator and specialist academic in the chosen subject area, the student will also conduct a literature review to identify a knowledge gap in a chosen area and subsequently compose a research proposal to address that knowledge gap using a standardized template.
