This module constitutes one of the core modules in the MB BCh BAO program (Graduate Entry) in Medicine. It covers the developmental biology and gross morphology of the principal organs of the digestive and genitourinary systems including associated organs such as the pancreas, liver and spleen. Elements of abdominal and pelvic anatomy that aid and improve understanding of these organ systems (for example, the pelvic floor) are also covered.

About this Module

Learning Outcomes:

Biomedical Knowledge: at the end of the module, the student should be able to recognise normal gross structure of the digestive and genitourinary systems and associated organs, describe development of the main organs in the digestive and genitourinary systems, and explain clinically relevant developmental anomalies of the digestive and genitourinary systems.

Clinical Skills: the student will recognise and understand the relationship between structure, disease and medical procedures (eg congenital and acquired hernia, surgical incisions) and will relate structure to radiographic imaging.

Indicative Module Content:

gastrointestinal tract
urinary tract
male and female genital tract
