A multimedia thesis should relate to the subject matter and skills of the degree programme – this includes demonstrating an ability to apply journalistic techniques and to address the relationship between journalism and international affairs. Thesis ideas are first presented to tutors during the Research Skills and Methods 1 module in the first trimester. A presentation is made on thesis ideas and planning at the end of the module and supervisors are assigned to each student at this time. With the support of the supervisor, students advance thesis planning and research, and develop their media production with guidance and feedback from the supervisor. The most suitable medium/media for your thesis must be discussed and agreed with your supervisor, based on resources, planning and suitability to the topic. The scale/length of the production itself will depend on the format chosen and must be agreed by your supervisor.

All projects must be accompanied by a project report of 5000 words. It should document the work involved in taking this production from conception to conclusion and a critical analysis of the issues involved. The report should include detail of the original conception of the project and any subsequent changes in direction, the developmental process, the methods employed, the research undertaken into previous and related published coverage of the topic, selection of sources, the nature of the problems encountered and the solutions devised to meet them, and a rationale for the suitability of the chosen medium. The report must give a full account of all sources (including interviews) in such a way that quotations in the thesis can be matched to the sources.
