AH20300 Medieval Art and Architecture: characteristics and influences

This course introduces.....

Art and architecture which represents the last phases of vanishing Roman rule to provide a sense of cultural continuity is explored. An overlay of the medieval world is presented . A period reflected in great migrations where there is cultural continuity and the evolution of territorial nations through examination of cultural shifts through the formation of the Monastery and the development of the art of this period through Manuscript and metalwork production. and new political centres form a background to the connectivity of art production over long distances the multicultural roots of early modern Europe. The relationship of Gothic as a new international style as it emerges at the end of the twelfth century is considered as an antithesis to the Romanesque as a transition period. The late medieval period is examined through monastic and secular architecture and the lectures are concluded with the impact of Religious reform.
