Academic Year 2021/2022

Designed as a series of lectures addressing 2/3 themes across the trimester this module serves to enrich and augment the chronological examination of key artistic developments, styles and artists in the Tuesday lectures. The topics vary slightly in each Diploma cycle but are typically drawn from the following: '"Great Masters" in detail', 'The Portrait: likeness, the ideal, image & posterity', 'Collecting & patronage [15th-17th centuries]' and 'Women & the art world'.

Approaches to Teaching and Learning:
The module is taught via lectures and the assessment will students engaging with works of art in the National Gallery of Ireland as part of the course assessment.
Support material from lectures will be available on Brightspace but students are encouraged to visit the library in person, make use of recommended texts, read books, visit galleries and museums and contribute in class.
