The Certificate in Archives Management programme is aimed at individuals employed in archive services in the public or private sector who wish to acquire the theoretical knowledge and practical skills to contribute to the successful management of the archives in all formats in their employing institutions and to select, curate and ensure access to the historic and future memory they contain.

The programme is based on the conception of the archivist as serving both their own organisation and wider society, informed in terms of adherence to international best practice and national legislation, creative in the delivery of services, sensitive to the balancing of access and privacy considerations, and dynamic in relation to technological change.

The programme’s learning environment comprises lectures, seminars, field trips and practitioner visits enabling the application of knowledge and skills acquired during the programme to practical issues specifically within each student’s employing organisation.

Teaching, learning and assessment is based on enabling students to complete assignments, reflect on archival practices in their own organisation and relate that specific context to wider international frameworks and best practice.

5 - Identify with the national and international community of and archivists and record keepers.
