The Certificate in Records Management programme is aimed at individuals employed in record keeping roles in the public or private sector who wish to acquire the theoretical knowledge and practical skills to contribute to the successful management of records in all formats in their employing institutions.

The programme is based on the conception of the record keeper as serving both individual organisations and wider society, adhering to international best practice, sensitive to the balancing of access and privacy considerations and dynamic in relation to technological change.

The programme’s learning environment comprises lectures, seminars, field trips and practitioner visits culminating in the completion of a portfolio of practical work based on the application of knowledge and skills acquired during the programme to issues specifically within each student’s employing organisation.

Teaching, learning and assessment is based on enabling students to complete assignments, reflect on recordkeeping practices in their own organisation and relate those specific record keeping contexts to wider international frameworks and best practice.

2 - Articulate the contribution of records management to the wider information management framework of the 21st century.
3 - Understand the importance of national and international legislative provision and standards on record creation and record keeping.
4 - Recognise the impact of organisational records and recordkeeping on wider society.
5 - Be aware of the interaction between organisational cultures, people and technology in shaping workable, context-specific solutions to the management of records and information.
