The Diploma in Continuing Education (Gaeilge Fheidhmeach) - An Dioplóma sa Ghaeilge Fheidhmeach is aimed at members of the general public who have an interest in the Irish language and culture and wish to gain a recognised qualification in same. This programme is especially suited to people in the public service and professionals who are interested in performing their duties effectively through the medium of Irish and those who wish to improve and use their Irish language skills for their own enjoyment or for career development.

Our aim is to promote and preserve the Irish language, its literature and culture. We aim to equip our students with the necessary linguistic skills and cultural awareness to actively engage with the Irish language community in the Gaeltacht areas and amongst urban language communities.

Students will graduate with a high level of language and communication skills in both written and spoken language, developing fluency, effective communication and analytical skills. A series of guest lectures will introduce students to aspects of Irish language research. Group work and pair work are central to the delivery of the programme. We value autonomous and collaborative learning by providing a vibrant learning environment for the teaching and use of the Irish language, through the medium supported by our multi-media language learning centre and our Student Space (An Seomra Caidrimh).  We strongly encourage Irish-language usage amongst the student body. All teaching and communication is conducted through the medium of Irish, and in small groups.

Assessments take the form of journal-keeping, projects, written, aural and oral examinations, presentations, translation exercises and essay writing.
