The Minor in Social Justice provides a unique educational pathway for students who wish to work in organisations with a social justice remit, in fields such as public policy; international development; human rights; community development; social research; advocacy/campaigning.
The curriculum is research-led, evidence-based, and socially engaged. It is grounded in an ethical and normative approach to the production and use of knowledge, informed by values of equality and solidarity and is centred on the goals of understanding and challenging social injustice locally and globally.
We foster a learning environment that is both caring and respectful. The principles of equality, respect for diversity and inclusiveness are the foundations for our interactions with each other on the Social Justice programme.
Students are not simply passive learners but are provided with opportunities to engage in dialogue and collaboration with teaching staff and peers. To that end, we employ a variety of active learning and teaching strategies, such as inquiry and problem-based learning, and group projects. Assessment strategies stimulate critical reflection and evidence-based analysis.
