Curricular information is subject to change.

If you are interested in science, the environment, the food you eat, the urban and rural landscape, or the latest agricultural technologies, this degree is for you.

In your first year (called Stage 1) students take a common programme and choose their degree option at the end of the first year. This is a good option if you are not sure which specific option or subject area you wish to take to degree level.

Stage 1 is listed below for Stage 2 options please select each subject area individually by DN code.

If you are interested in science, the environment, the food you eat, the urban and rural landscape or the latest agricultural technologies, this degree is for you.

Applicants can choose from two CAO entry routes:

-Omnibus Entry Agricultural Science (DN010) ; you take a common programme in Stage 1 and choose your degree option at the end of this stage. This is a good option if you are not sure which specific option or subject area you wish to take to degree level.

- Denominated entry ; you enter your denominated programme directly in Stage 1 taking many similar core modules as omnibus entry students. This option guarantees a place in your chosen degree programme and is a good choice if you are sure of the degree programme you want to take.

The CAO codes for the separate degree programmes are:

- DN040 Food Science - DN042 Forestry

- DN043 Food & Agribusiness Management

- DN044 Agri-Environmental Sciences

- DN045 Animal & Crop Production

- DN046 Animal Science

- DN047 Engineering Technology

- DN048 Horticulture, Landscape & Sportsturf Management

- DN049 Animal Science - Equine

STAGE 1
In Stage 1 you will be introduced to the core subjects of Animal Biology and Evolution, Cell and Plant Biology, Physics, Discrete Mathematics, Calculus, Organic and Physical Chemistry as well as Information Skills and Computer Applications and Agricultural Economics and Business.

All our programmes have a similar Stage 1 that aims to give you a good foundation in the core sciences, maths and economics needed for the rest of your studies. Science modules are taught on the basis that you have not studied the subject before.

From Stage 2, you can then specialise in one of the areas outlined above.

PWE is an integral part of the degree and takes place in third year. Part, or all, of PWE can be taken abroad. PWE provides an opportunity for you to network, experience many different roles and, in some instances, even secure a job prior to graduation.

There are opportunities to study abroad for one trimester during third year, in universities in Australia, New Zealand, Europe and the USA, among others.

BAgrSc graduates have an excellent record in obtaining challenging and fulfilling roles. Careers in sectors such as food, agriculture, business and services include:
