Additive Manufacturing for Full Flexibility (AM) is a combination of studying manufacturing science including physics of additive manufacturing processes, mechanical design including exploiting the design freedoms enabled for more customized products and services, and production management including the flexibility enabled for smaller lot production. During the programme students will gain new skills in these areas.
- In manufacturing science, relevant fields include molten material physics, heat transfer, and deformation.
- In design engineering, relevant fields are numerical and topological optimization, process physics simulation, new concept generation and design engineering.
- In production management, relevant fields include logistics, digitalization and quality.
Students learn the latest theoretical knowledge and know how to apply their skills in practical real-life problems. Typical application areas of AM include rapid prototyping, flexible pattern and mold manufacturing, lightweight systems, and flexible manufacturing systems.
See the EIT Manufacturing Master School Website for further details.
2 - Prove experience in working with methodological knowledge in the area of manufacturing challenges, and a considerable degree of specialised knowledge of multidisciplinary decision support systems for manufacturing.
3 - Be able to critically, independently and creatively participate in strategic work to meet manufacturing-related problems and to be able to relate these measures to sustainable social development.
4 - Be able to implement the gained engineering expertise in additive manufacturing to create new or improved methods, techniques, products, and services in the field.
5 - Be able to think beyond traditional disciplinary boundaries to find innovative solutions to real-world problems and to come up with new ideas
6 - Be able to draw up plans and to make decisions foreseeing future consequences from a scientific, ethical, and societal perspective
7 - Be able to turn innovations in the area into feasible and successful business solutions.
8 - Be able to profitably work in small size teams and contexts by taking into account all relevant elements and showing effective decision-making and leadership abilities
There is strong demand throughout Europe for graduates of manufacturing degree programmes to be better equipped for the marketplace than their predecessors have been. There is strong need for graduates to have direct experience of industry, to have a practical awareness of important developments within the sectors of Europe’s manufacturing industry (e.g., increased digitalisation, demands of Industry 4.0, growth of additive manufacturing and robotics, etc.), to have a greater awareness of innovation & entrepreneurship, combined with an international perspective that is the direct result of personal experiences. The ME Manufacturing Engineering will prepare you for high level technical positions, Innovation roles and business profiles, including the capability to create your own start-up. It will also allow you to create a professional network at national and international level through the several initiatives and the EIT alumni communities.
Stage 1
The ME (Manufacturing Engineering) Degree Programme w Additive Manufacturing for Full Flexibility minor is a Two-Year 2-Stage 120-Credit Masters Programme, part of the EIT Manufacturing Master School collaborative programme. Students are required to take 60 credits in Stage 1 (Year 1) at UCD as the Entry university with a balanced workload of 30 credits per Trimester. The second year of the Programme will be done in an Exit university, in another country, based on the students preferred choice, made at the registration stage for the EIT Manufacturing Master School.
Students will be automatically registered to their Core Modules.
Below is a list of all modules offered for this degree in the current academic year. Click on the module to discover what you will learn in the module, how you will learn and assessment feedback profile amongst other information.
Incoming Stage 1 undergraduates can usually select an Elective in the Spring Trimester. Most continuing undergraduate students can select up to two Elective modules (10 Credits) per stage. There is also the possibility to take up to 10 extra Elective credits.
