Learning Outcomes:
On successful completion of the module, students will be able to:
- Explain morphological changes, biochemical and haematological disturbances in animals affected with urinary tract disease and reproductive disease and discuss the aetiology and pathogenesis of these
- Describe the diagnostic techniques used
- Analyse case-based scenarios and apply theoretically preventive measures indicated in urinary and reproductive tract disease;
- Plan the clinical and surgical management of urinary and reproductive tract disease cases and propose the appropriate pharmaceutical agents and therapies indicated for such diseases.
- Identify and explain what processes and interventions are involved in the parturition, breeding and post conception stages, including associated abnormalities.
- Work as part of a team to research a clinical cases and to communicate findings
- Develop effective and efficient strategies to manage and treat clinical cases from both reproductive and urinary tract.
- Evaluate the impact of clinical treatment plans on the future reproductive performance of an animals
- Demonstrate clear and articulate verbal communication to present clinical case findings
- Perform a clinical reproductive as well as a urological examination
Indicative Module Content:
The course covers the aetiology, pathophysiology, pathogensesis, pathology and disturbances of function associated with diseases of the urinary and reproductive diseases. The course also deals with clinical pathology of urinary and reproductive tract disturbances as well as urinalysis. In addition, diagnosis, treatment and management of urinary and reproductive tract disease in domestic animals is outlined as is the pharmokenetics of drugs used in their treatment. Practical content will be delivered in small group teaching both in UCD Belfield and in UCD Lyons farm.
