This module explores the experiences of diverse social groups in society through the lenses of social justice, intersectionality and inequality. It provides an overview of the multiple factors that create power, hegemony and privilege of certain groups and marginalisation and exclusion of others. Students will be exposed to the analysis of groups such as women and girls; boys and men; younger and older people; sexual minorities; homelessness; persons with disabilities; migrants; race and ethnic minorities; and children. We will discuss case studies from different cultural contexts while also gaining a better understanding of ourselves through the comparative study of multiple social groups.

Students are encouraged to review all their answers, and to take particular note of the correct answers to the questions they answered incorrectly. The end-of-term project (Digital Poster) will be assessed using a qualitative rubric attached to the letter grade awarded. Any exceptional comments that concern issues around academic integrity or late submission will be recorded individually and separately. Any student who fails the assessment will receive an explanation as to why.
