On successful completion of this modules students will:
1.Have become familiar with the notion of Catalan identity.
2. Demonstrate an awareness of social, political and cultural issues related to Catalonia and the Catalan Speaking Territories.
3. Be able to analyse and interpret historical processes, visual and written texts; and social practices.
4. Produce original, theory-informed and context sensitive critical analysis of Catalan cultural production.
The course presents an overview of Catalan culture through focus on the following topics: the Catalan Speaking Territories, history, literature and music under Francoism, Avant-garde artists (Salvador Dalí and Joan Miró) and Modernisme (Antoni Gaudí), performance art (La Fura dels Baus).
